It definitely does not stack; the spell description for Crusader Aura says so.

The reason your pally friend could beat you is that Crusader Aura is a 20% speed buff, whereas Riding Crop is only a 10% speed buff.

I don't know much about Paladins but I do believe the crusader Aura that increases your mount speed does indeed stack with items that increase mount speed such as Riding Crop, Carrot on a stick....I have a paladin friend and we have raced each other on mounts (out of group so I was not affected by the aura) and he could beat me every time because he had aura and I did not when we both had the same riding trinket equipped.

@Adese: thanks for that! I've added a note about that in the main article text, with credit to you.

@Magnilda: Nice going on the pally :) I imagine you probably know most of what I'm likely to say, but I hope the next pieces prove useful.

@Pike: You're welcome! Hope it proves useful - new pallies can be rather intimidating thanks to the Seal/Judgement mechanics, so I hope this explained things a bit more clearly.

Nice little intro. I've just reached 39 on my pally so looks like I might out level this handy guide.

Looking forward to the next pieces. :)

One small clarification regarding Seal of Vengeance. If the seal procs when there is already a stack of 5 Holy Vengeances on the mob, you will do a small amount of holy damage to the mob. The stack will also be refreshed.

Nice guide!!

Just a small comment though. In your description of Blessing of Salvation you say that ret-paladins don't have talents to reduce threat. We do now! (since 2.3) Its buried deep into the ret-tree. ( i cant remember the name of the talent, but it reduces threat by 30% with 3/3 points spent.
